To
apply for some bank accounts whether
they be personal or corporate you will
sometimes
need to provide a legally certified sample of
your signature. This is
usually
provided on a simple form called a signature
specimen card. (We have
provided
links above to several examples of signature specimen
cards for you
to look at.)
This is almost
always
the case if you are applying for any
type of offshore account
or secured
credit
card abroad.
When
applying for such accounts, you can't simply sign your
signature and expect
it to be accepted
at
face value. The signature must be confirmed
by a legal
representative who
are generally
known as a notary public. This is a person
who
is qualified to carry out
such work.
All
they will be doing in this case is legally certifying the validity of your signature.
To
find a suitable legally qualified person,
just look under 'notaries' in the
telephone
directory.
Most are solicitors also so you should
try
your local solicitors office and ask if
there is a notary available. This
service shouldn't be expensive. Take along your passport and any other necessary
identification documents.
The
bank you are applying to may, in fact,
already have suitably qualified
and
authorised members of staff that can
carry out this task.
