Virtual
MasterCard
This
is a virtual
MasterCard debit card from the Lithuanian
arm of the Baltic banking
group Citadele
and is designed for
online shopping. It can be used anywhere
that
accepts
MasterCard. There is no
physical
card.
You
need to open a Citadele
current account first as all their
payment cards are
linked
to
a bank account. These virtual MasterCard
accounts are available to
non-residents
and
can be opened in either Lithuanian Litas
(LTL), Euros or US
Dollars.
The
cards are valid for 2 years. The card
issuance and renewal fee is 40 LTL
(currently
about £10 or US$16). There are no annual
fees. There is also a 1%
transaction fee
on purchases. The daily transaction
limit is 10,000 LTL.
A security
deposit may be required to obtain one
of these virtual cards, so they
act
more like secured cards rather than
just a standard prepaid card. If any
such
deposit
is requested by Citadele then the current
interest rate charged on balances
is
17%.
